Anderson Rowntree Goes Full Throttle

Alastair Sinclair, Partner and Family/Litigation Lawyer at our Petworth office flew the flag for the firm and supported a local client who entered his 1965 Ford Mustang 289 in the Spa 6 Hour Classic in Belgium this month.

The race is an annual endurance classic car competition and while the cars are the pride and joy of their owners, it is no less fiercely contested than similar events like the Le Mans 24 hours.

Anderson Rowntree was proud to support Nick Ruddell and his team including Pete Rimer and Robert Crofton.  Our logo was proudly displayed alongside the fetching dark blue and cream striped decal of the Mustang. We lined up alongside some serious competition including GT40s, e-type Jaguars and Ferraris.

The weather ahead of race day was appalling – heavy rain and chilly winds, although this is quite typical of the Spa Francorchamps circuit. Thankfully, the rain abated on the day and a total of 119 cars were entered, divided into 6 classes.  Our Mustang qualified 6th in class and 65th overall.

Pete drove first, then Nick and then Robert who did the late stint.  Here’s some daytime footage of the race from the dashboard

Pete put in some really good early lap times though the brakes were starting to suffer by the time Nick started. This meant that they required pumping before the corners – you can see how hard it was to keep control later in this next clip (at 39 secs)

Nick and Robert showed great skill in maintaining competitive lap times for the remaining 4 hrs towards the finish in the dark at 10pm. Here’s in-car footage of Robert driving hard to the end

Not cowed by the Jags and the Ferraris, they drove to a superb 2nd place in their class, 22nd overall which followed on from their 1st in class last year.

Nick races a full season of classic races, including Donnington, Brands hatch, Silverstone and Le Mans).  Alastair was also with him at 4 hr Grand Prix de France Historique at Magny Cours, France in June, where he pulled off a win driving the Mustang, sharing the driving again with Robert.

We look forward to keeping you updated on how the Mustang fares at future events.
